We are all stretched out by the tensions that surround our circumstances. We worry, we doubt, we fear, and we get all stressed out, we allow the pressures to overtake and rule us. The situations in our adversity are actually shaping us, the travail that we are persevering through is building our character. Often times the stressful situations we find so difficult are actually making us stronger. In order to get past the difficulty, one must go through it. The tighter things get, the more expansive you become. Anxiety is not going to overcome you, it’s not going to rule you unless you are without a coping mechanism. The above comments are not intended to make light of any significantly dreadful thing that some people may have had to go through. Unfortunately, bad things sometimes happen to good people, but for many of us the current afflictions we are bearing are temporary.
In managing your stress consider that the pressure that is opposing you is actually an area resistance, similar to the same resistance you experience while riding a bicycle. You must pedal in order to get forward momentum, but there is resistance against your legs, you must push the pedals to get movement. The resistance you feel is actually toning your legs, it is increasing the strength of your muscles. In the same manner, the stressful tribulation that you may be enduring is transforming you from the way you were, to the way you are becoming.
The essence of your stress has defining power, it’s not what is happening to you, it’s what is happening for you. Within every setback there is a setup for a comeback, every exit is an entry somewhere else. Perhaps this helps you gain some understanding, but you feel like you really need something to hold on to. The good news is that there is a coping mechanism to help you during times of stress and anxiety. Hope can actually be defined as a happy anticipation of a good alteration. But hope comes through faith, as faith is the substance of things hoped for.
The best way to relieve stress is to spread out the tension. A farmer will actually put a beam across two oxen in order to plow a field, this divides the resistance across the two oxen in a balanced manner, so that they work as a team. Now the two oxen are synchronized and will evenly pull the plow in harmony. The beam referred to above is a piece of wood called a yoke. So in order to relieve the anxiety in your life, you need to get yourself yoked up! "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Those are the words of Jesus in Matthew 11:28-30. If you have not already done so, you can take this opportunity to ask Jesus to be the Lord and savior of your life. Just say, Lord Jesus I repent of my sins, I ask you for your forgiveness, and I ask you to come into my heart and be a part of my life. ….You can do all things through him who gives you strength.
